Last week, an Indian beauty proved her mettle on the world-class beauty pageant again.  The 20-year-old Manushi Chillar was crowned Miss World 2017 in the glittering event held in Sanya, China. She is the 6th Indian beauty to shine in the Miss World pageant. This crown came back to India after a gap of 17 years, the previous winner being Priyanka Chopra back in 2000. There is much to celebrate.

There are jubilations around the country. The media is flowing with congratulations to the young MBBS student from Sonepat, Haryana. She aspires to become a Cardiologist and open chain of non-profit hospitals in rural areas. She has taken a year break to pursue her dream to represent India. Manushi Chillar was impressive throughout the pageant. She bowled over everyone with her confidence and charm; she gave a heartfelt answer to the question around when she showcased the eternal Indian value of respect and regard for Mothers. She reiterated Mothers deserve the highest salary. Very Indian.

Whilst Manushi Chillar impressed the world with her poise, grace and confidence, the state of Haryana was suddenly basking in the glow of her achievement. The state of Haryana for many years has been in news for having the worst sex ratio in the country. The stories are replete with the horrors of infanticide and girl child sufferings. But since last year, Haryana has broken away from the shackles of the infamous title. The Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar was one of the first to congratulate the Haryana stunner.

This win has brought more cheer to the state as its last year’s slogan ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Patao’ has come to a fruitful culmination. With the commendable success at the wrestling competitions and stupendous success of the movie ‘Dangal’, the world took notice of Haryana girls. Many celebrities from the state also shared their pride through the social media.

Now hoping Manushi becomes the torchbearer to the young girls of her state. She can show that by becoming a successful cardiologist, she is truly a beauty with brains. And the world is her oyster now.
